The Secret to Getting Super-Organized

The secret to super-organize your work, your learning, and your life – Part 1

People talk about “getting super-organized” and there are at least 1,000 different organizational methods out there, but few of these ever mention that the secret to getting that dream organization is actually very simple.

It’s called structure.

Why? Because structure is hard work, and these methods promote the idea that organization is “easy.”

But a solid structure is the secret that turns any organizational method into a super-organizational method. And without it, your organization is toast.

Put simply, structure is the format you put your organization into so that it actually keeps you organized.

It’s kind of like having a beautiful decoration scheme and buying all the perfect furniture for your dream home, but if you don’t have an actual home – or structure – to put it in, then all that furniture will just sit in the street and go to waste.

So, how do you fix that, come up with structure, and uncover the secret to getting super-organized?

setting up a workspace

1. Positive and Private Workspace for Super-Organization.

Finding a private workspace does not mean having a private room. This can be anything from a relatively quiet corner to a small- open-doored-closet (I kid you not).

Have something that works as a desk, (even a small folding table works), and make sure you sit on a straight back (but comfortable) chair.

The point of this space is:

1) that it is uniquely yours and

2) that your brain associates’ this space with thinking, working, creating, and organizing.

Put items around your workspace that put you in a good mood from images, paintings, flowers or decorations.

The point of these is to lift your spirits and keep you in a positive mindset.

DO NOT: use your bed or a couch!

Your brain associates your bed with sleeping and relaxing which makes it much harder to focus.

A couch also automatically places your body in a slouch, leading to poor blood-brain circulation and also telling your brain to re-lax!

Workspace supplies to super-organize

2. Super-Organize by Having Work Resources Handy

For distance anything you need to start with a good internet connection.

If your signal is weak consider a wifi signal booster.

If that doesn’t work reach out to your internet provider for help.

Follow with the stuff you need to keep you organized.

Do you need post-its? An agenda? Colored pencils and pens? Index cards?

Make sure you have plenty of these supplies to last you at least a month so you can easily follow your organization method.

Repeating behaviors over 30 days helps make them a habit.

Then, consider what you need to get your work/planning/learning done?

Do you need paper? Textbooks? Highlighters? Paper?

Depending on your work/planning/learning these things will change.

Still, make sure you have a place near you where you can access them easily.

Having to get up and look for items to get things done is an instant focus and organization killer. Avoid that by keeping key items nearby.

schedule for super-organization

3. Setup a Workplace Schedule, and Follow It!

Okay, easier said than done, I know.

But the secret to getting super-organized is not about pretty colors or having the right pens.

It’s about setting up a system that you can follow and sticking to it.

Part of that “secret to getting super-organized” system is having a schedule.

This means deciding when you get up and doing it consistently every day.

Decide when you’re going to sit at your workspace and do it daily. Set your work hours, and even schedule in short breaks.

If you work on several different items, schedule how much time spend on each so no one thing is ignored.

If you’re writing a book, starting a project, or studying for a big test, schedule hours every day to work on it.

While it might not seem like much at first, the hours add up and make a difference.

You might be pleasantly surprised to find how much you can get done in one hour a day.

Insert a little structure into your workspace and you’re on the path to super-organizing your learning, your work, and your life.
